Stephen Harper's Pathological Hatred

While I stand by my comments about The Globe and Mail in my last post, the paper does have one real asset in the person of Lawrence Martin. Unlike other Globe employees who seem strangely constrained ideologically, Lawrence is consistently robust in his criticism of the Harper regime.

Today's column is no exception, as he reveals the roots of dear leader's pathological hatred of Elections Canada.

  1. I think Harper truly hates anyone or any group that defies his wishes and purpose. He viciously attacks a parliamentary budget officer, a veterans ombudsman, an veteran diplomat from Kabul, anyone who stands up to him or contradicts his position. It doesn't help that Harper has so fully embraced the religious superstition of fundamentalism that so often puts his beliefs at odds with facts that then must be dismissed. I suspect this is also at the root of his undemocratic, decidedly un-Canadian authoritarianism. He truly is a cancer on our country.
