Facebook's Community Standards

Some time ago, I wrote about my disappointing experience with Facebook after I complained about what was essentially hate speech by a FB group. The response I got was that the racist anti-Muslim group did not violate their community standards.

Since then, it would appear that little has changed.

Yesterday I happened upon a video by a FB group entitled Refugee Resettlement, below which was an invitation to learn more at Act For America, which describes itself as "the NRA of national security." Take a look if you want to get a flavour of their 'concerns.' I watched the group's video which, in my view, is an exercise in fear-mongering and anti-Muslim sentiment, and it does violate my standards, but apparently not those of Facebook. Here is the reply I got about my complaint:
Thank you for taking the time to report something that you feel may violate our Community Standards. Reports like yours are an important part of making Facebook a safe and welcoming environment. We reviewed the video you reported for displaying hate speech and found it doesn't violate our Community Standards.

Please let us know if you see anything else that concerns you. We want to keep Facebook safe and welcoming for everyone.
Well, perhaps not everyone, as the video below makes clear:

  1. .. its not totally clear from her rant.. if she's anti immigrant.. or just anti Islamic.. Her accent sounds vaguely Arab with hints of Friench". Weird. Is she Egyptian? Or? She is almost certainly an immigrant.. but only thinks certain non infadels should be allowed in.. so she must be gospel resding new fangled christian.. or worse, morman. Regardless, it something or someone - far up there in the sky thzt only the faultless & exalted ones like her.. can truly appreciate. The rest of us are f_cked.. its hell & brimstone - no rapture or St Peter for us sinners

    1. I believe she is originally from Lebanon, Salamander. Something tells me she is not of the Muslim faith.

  2. WOW! This anti-muslim rant is from a woman who has immigrated to a country, The U.S.A. that is the greatest purveyor of violence against muslim countries through proxy or direct wars.

You were right to report this hateful, anti-muslim rant to Facebook Lorne. Facebooks answer to what you reported is very interesting. I guess supporting a hateful racist rant does not bother them. And what of Facebooks Muslim members? What of their
rights of equality under the law. Does Facebook think it's okay to subject their Muslim members to this racist anti-muslim rant?
    I guess they do.

The source of these Muslims becoming refugees is the destruction of their lives and their country by US/NATO forces. They are FORCED to leave to save theirs and their families lives.

The American tax payers who have to pay for what she calls questionable immigration practices, is nothing compared to what the American tax payer pays for their governments perpetual wars.

Does this woman really think that these Muslims set out to intentionally become refugees?

This hysterical racist rant I find particularly disturbing, because she appears to me to be very angry and slightly disturbed.

The ease with which she promotes her racist hatred against Muslim, reveals what all racists think, that they are superior to another group of people, of whom they denigrate, simply because they are not them.

    1. I agree completely, Pamela. Facebook also asked me in their response how I would rate my experience, and I sent a note back asking them to explain how the post is consistent with their community standards. So far, there has been no response.

    2. It would be interesting Lorne if it was an anti-jewish rant or an anti - christian rant.Bets are the post would be removed shortly after it was posted.

Blaming the victim seems to be the MO of those who accuse the Muslims of terrorism, being culturally uncivilized and being jealous of American freedom.
None of this is true, but the world can openly hurl whatever racist, anti-muslim accusations at muslims and never be called to task. The muslims are the worlds scapegoats. The ignorance that accompanies this anti-muslim racism is just as offensive as the racism itself.

    3. This sort of thing also represents the dark side of the Internet, Pamela, where everyone with an opinion can, no matter how benighted or ugly, find a community that will praise such boldness as "not being a slave to political correctness."
