UPDATED:Finally, A Politician Speaking For Her People

You have had, I am sure, many experiences throughout your lives when you have met people and, based only on very limited contact, have concluded they are people of integrity, people you can trust, perhaps befriend, hire and/or otherwise do business with. It is a hard-to-qualify trait, but if you watch the following, I think you will see it in Carmen Yulín Cruz, the mayor of San Juan.

H/t Mrs. Betty Bowers

UPDATE: The Toddler-in-Chief has another Twitter tantrum, prompted by the above:
The Mayor of San Juan, who was very complimentary only a few days ago, has now been told by the Democrats that you must be nasty to Trump.

…Such poor leadership ability by the Mayor of San Juan, and others in Puerto Rico, who are not able to get their workers to help. They….

— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) September 30, 2017

…want everything to be done for them when it should be a community effort. 10,000 Federal workers now on Island doing a fantastic job.

— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) September 30, 2017

The military and first responders, despite no electric, roads, phones etc., have
done an amazing job. Puerto Rico was totally destroyed.

— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) September 30, 2017

Fake News CNN and NBC are going out of their way to disparage our great First Responders as a way to "get Trump." Not fair to FR or effort!

  1. What's to say? America has always been racially stratified and now, with the white majority in peril, it's even more so. There aren't a lot of Anglo-Americans in distress in Puerto Rico. Those who might have been had the ways and the means to di di mau two or three weeks ago.

Now, you combine that race card with the fact that: 1) Puerto Rico isn't a state but merely a territory where the population cannot vote; 2) Puerto Rico, due to financial problems, some of which were hatched and imposed by the mainlanders, is essentially broke and, as such, irrelevant; and 3, Puerto Rico is an island and islands are far more vulnerable to storm damage and far less easy for government relief teams because so much infrastructure, including the electrical grid, is down and out. Trump can boast about getting supplies to the docks of San Juan but his government won't commit the type of aid required to get those critical supplies from the dockside to the stricken neighbourhoods where they're most needed, where the locals just can't get out.

Trump can say what he wants but, once the death tolls start coming in and America realizes how little was really done to prevent it, I think even a good chunk of his base will turn on him. I could be wrong. If I am wrong, the situation is worse than I had imagined.

    1. The politics of racism have rarely been uglier, Mound. I read your post yesterday and was shocked to see how quickly the Jones Act had been lifted for Texas and Florida and how slow Trump was to do the same for Puerto Rico.

The breaking point is surely fast-approaching.

  2. Mound's post the other day, which concluded with a clip of Trump saying that, unfortunately, Melania couldn't be there -- even as she stood beside him -- makes it abundantly clear that the President of the United States is a few sandwiches short of a picnic.

    1. I did see that, Owen. It put me in mind of the time recently when Trump got off of Air Force One and walked right by his waiting limo. He had to be guided back there by his handlers.

  3. What seems like centuries ago but in reality was only days past, I recall statements on the Trump administration such as, "it can't get any worse." Now I fear the bottom will never be in sight.

Trump is a disturbed human with an uncountable amount of demons. But his two most frightening demons are hatred and narcissism. Couple these two driving forces embedded in a man that clearly shows evidence of frontal lobe damage. Frontal lobe damage, professionals will diagnose, as someone who is unable to link cause and effect. Sound familiar?

The Americans have put a man in the most powerful office on the planet who is disassociated with reality.

It scares the shit out of me.

    1. Well said, Domenic. I think the vast majority share the fears you express about the disturbed and divisive demagogue the Americans have elevated to the highest office in the land.

    1. I have nothing to add to your assessment here, Sal, except to observe that Brand Trump is being aptly destroyed by demagogue Trump.
